We are no strangers to egg carton crafts. Yes, we do hoard the carriers because you never know when you will want to make an egg carton caterpillar craft, butterfly or DIY bird mask.
What age is this craft for?
This project can be made by any aged child. They can choose the paint colors and all details of their flower art project. Find 24+ flower crafts for kids here.
Adult assistance will probably be needed when cutting the egg carton and gluing. We used a hot glue gun to attach the craft stick stem and pipe cleaner leaf.

Cutting Your Egg Carton

- Cardboard egg cartons will be easier to work with instead of styrofoam (and better for the environment, too)
How To Make Simple Egg Carton Flowers
Before You Begin
An adult should cut the cardboard egg carton so that four spots show. Trim any excess off.
Step 1: Use Paint
Use washable tempera paint in the colors of your choice. Paint the egg carton front and back. You may also want to paint the craft stick that will be the stem.
We let our young child express their own creativity with their color choices.
Step 2: Let Paint Dry
Step 3: Hot Glue Craft Stick On The Back
An adult can add a little extra hot glue on top of the stick to try to secure it well.
Step 4: Cut Felt Circle
Cut fringe around the circle. This is great to work on fine motor skills. Tell children to make sure that they use the “inside of the alligator mouth” so that they are able to cut the fabric.
Step 5: Glue Felt & Button In The Middle
Use hot glue to attach the felt. You can push the felt in to get a little more texture like a real flower.
Hot glue a button on top of the center of the flower.
Step 6: Add A Leaf
You can bend a pipe cleaner or use paper to make a leaf shape to attach to your stem.
