Zentangle Heart Tutorial

DRAW A HEART – Sketch a medium to large-sized heart with a marker in the middle of your white paper.
OUTLINE – Use a thicker black marker to outline the drawing. We like to use a chisel tip marker for thicker lines.
CREATE SMALLER SHAPES – Add 5-8 lines inside the heart. Split up the background with at least 6 lines to start. You may make smaller shapes in the negative space as you work.
ADD PATTERNS – For this patterned heart doodle, we only added designs with markers in the background shapes. Repeating lines and patterns is a great way to start.
ADD COLOR – Inside the shapes on the heart, use colored pencils to create fun stained glass looking heart.

Tips

Consider coloring in some negative space when creating black-and-white doodles.
You can create balance by repeating a similar pattern or design in a different spot.
Pick a cohesive color scheme for inside the heart. You can repeat the colors in different sections but do not color two shapes touching each other the same color.
Children can practice shading with colored pencils.
