Easy Kindergarten Mixed Media Flower Collage

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Empty Toilet Paper Roll or cup
  • 3 Colors of 9 x 12″ Construction Paper
  • 1 piece of 12 x 18″ Construction Paper
  • Acrylic or Tempera Paint
  • Paper Plate
  • Optional: Q-Tip other small items to stamp
  • Scissors

If you do not want a lot of painted paper left over, you could only make two stamped 9 x 12″ papers.

ART TEACHER TIP: The most challenging part of this process is ensuring that children do not smear the paint once it is printed.

Painted Paper Flower Collage

BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Set up a printmaking station with a tray and paint in different colors. You may also want to try this other easy heart printmaking art idea!

Step 1: Stamp Shapes

On three different colors use a variety of stamping materials to design your printed papers. In the image above, we stamped a Dixie cup, marker end and a Q-tip.

Step 2: Let The Papers Dry

If you are doing this with a class, this is a great stopping point.

Step 3: Cut Flower Shapes

Trace or draw shapes on the back of the painted papers and cut out. Each paper will get one set of shapes. One color will be for petals, another color for the flower center/fringe grass and another color for the stem/extra details.

Step 4: Glue Shapes On Your Paper

Glue the center of the flower, stem and then flower petals.

Tips

  • Model how to stamp the cup and not drag it across the paper.
  • You can use templates or have children independently draw large petals, circles, and stems.
  • Demonstrate how to glue shapes using a glue stick on the back of the paper on the outside edge.
  • When adding glue to shapes, have students do it on scrap paper or off to the side.

Equipment

  • Paper Plate

Supplies

  • Stamping Tools cup, marker or Q-Tip
  • 3 colors Craft Paint acrylic or tempera
  • 1 piece 12 x 18" Construction Paper any color
  • 2 or 3 pieces 9 x 12" Construction Paper any colors

Instructions

  • Create two or three painted pieces of paper by stamping cups, marker ends and other found objects. Dip the end into the paint and stamp of the 9 x 12" paper.
  • Let the paper dry.
  • Flip painted papers over to draw and then cut out flower petals, stems, grass and flower center.
  • Glue cut out flower pieces on to the larger 12 x 18" paper.
  • Add any extra collage details using the extra painted paper.

Notes

    • You can use templates or have children independently draw large petals, circles, and stems.
    • Demonstrate how to glue shapes using a glue stick on the back of the paper on the outside edge.
    • Brightly colored paper and paints work best for this project.
